ABOUT ME
Thank you for checking out my website! My name is Jacob Bohman,
My love of writing began at the age of nine with a story for a school assignment. Even though I never completed that story, it introduced me to creative writing, and helped me believe that I could write other stories. I primarily wrote fantasy and fiction for about six years before I stumbled on the idea that would later become my first book Transmission. I had never considered myself a writer of science fiction, since it wasn’t something I had been interested in before, but the idea of Transmission became more fascinating as I continued to write it.
From mid-December of 2016 until mid-February of 2017, I worked on that story, primarily using a word-processor on my cellphone. For the first few weeks—before I got a Bluetooth keyboard—my mother thought that I was just playing video games. But once my parents found out I was actually writing stories on my cellphone, they bought me a keyboard to connect to it, so writing would be easier for me. During the time I was writing Transmission, I was also involved in a play. I spent many hours sitting backstage in the theater writing out the majority of my book.
Once I finished my book, in mid-February, I didn’t work on it again for over a year. I never really imagined I would write a book, which left me utterly unprepared to publish it. I would read through it occasionally, but I didn’t make any concrete efforts to edit my book until March of 2018, when a friend offered to edit it for me. I spent the next year and a half editing and doing some minor work on it, preparing to publish it. And then, at the start of my final year in high school, I decided to take an ambitious step in my publishing, by preparing it to publish for my senior project. It took me less than a month to finish all the final details, and I was able to set the final release date for later 2019.
Writing and publishing this book has been an adventure, and while I know that Transmission won’t be my best work, I am immensely proud that I accomplished this feat as a teenager. As a senior in high school, I have been learning how to write both formally and informally. I have always considered myself to be a self-directed learner, capable of learning on my own, and the process of writing and publishing a book has only reinforced that for me. Self-publishing is not always an easy path, but if you are able to overcome obstacles and seek out the resources you need, it is very rewarding.
Besides writing, I have worked as a lifeguard at several different locations, as a stockman for a hardware store, and am currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Lyon, France.
